Egypt Defeats US Women To Capture 3rd Straight World Juniors Title from DailySquashReport.com
July 31, 2011-
US #1 Amanda Sobhy beat newly-crowned world junior champion Nour El
Tayeb in the showcase match before a raucous, pro-USA crowd at
Harvard University yesterday, but Egypt proved too strong at #2 and #3
and captured the 2011 World JuniorTeam Championship final by two matches to
one.
It was Egypt’s third consecutive world championship.
The US was positioned to win a title for the first time in 31 years. In
March of 1980, the Alicia McConnell-led US team struck gold, winning
the ISRF World Junior Championship in Sweden.
The US coaches opted to go with talented 14-year-old Sabrina Sobhy
in the #3 slot against Egypt. Alternate Haley Mendez won Friday’s
deciding match against India.
