- All three North American squads are favored to qualify into the  knockout round as 32 countries begin pool play today in the 2011 World Men’s Team Championships in Paderborn, Germany.

Team USA, seeded #8 overall, takes on Ukraine this afternoon, while #7 Canada squares off against Scotland, and  #10 Mexico matches up with Namibia.

The US, with Illingworth, Lane and Gordon at 1-2-3, should dominate today’s round, as should Mexico, led by Eric Galvez, Erik Tepos and Cesar Salazar.

The Canada-Scotland encounter is an early pivotal match, as the loser will be left with a slim shot of qualifying out of Pool G, which includes Mexico.

Canada’s #1 and PSA #29 Shahier Razik will likely have his hands full with Scottish #1 Alan Clyne, world-ranked at #40. Shawn Delierre should prevail at #2, and the #3 match, possibly between Canada’s Andrew McDougall and Chris Small, is a toss-up.

Canada’s ultimate fortune in this biennial world championship could possibly ride on the shoulders of its top player Razik in this opening match.
