- 19-year-old Andrew Schnell staged a dramatic comeback from two-love down in the third and deciding match against Mexico today to propel Team Canada into the world team championship tournament.

Canada, at 2-0 in qualifying play, gains an automatic berth in the knockout main draw.

Mexico (1-1) needs a victory tomorrow against Scotland (1-1) to qualify.

Cesar Salazar opened the proceedings with a straight-set win over Canadian Shahier Razik at the #1 position, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5.

Shawn Delierre shook off a lopsided first game to decision Mexico’s Erik Galvez  4-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-4, setting the stage for the deciding matchup between Team Canada rookie Schnell and Mexico’s Erik Tepos.

Tepos won the first two games decisively, but Schnell fought back and ground out an impressive win: 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-7.

Canada finishes qualifying pool play against Namibia tomorrow, while Mexico takes on Scotland in the showdown match.
