Pro Squash Tour (PST) May Require Eyewear - No-Let Rule A Factor from DailySquashReport.com
August 31, 2011- The US-based Pro Squash Tour is considering making protective eyewear mandatory for all players in its events.
One reason the issue has been raised is because PST match rules are
slightly different than PSA rules. In PST matches there are no
traditional lets allowed, potentially leading to more player contact as
rallies are continued which would have ended in replayed points under
the traditional let system.
"We are at the beginning of a process," said PST Commissioner and CEO
Joe McManus. "There are several factors to consider, including the
safety of our players."
To date, no one has been hit in the eye with a racquet or ball in a PST
match. A year ago in Baltimore, Wael El Hindi was cut on the top of his
head by a follow-through.
"To make the game more entertaining,” said McManus, “we
eliminated the traditional let. The result is a more intense,
action-packed and free flowing game where players are more aggressively
pursuing the ball."
