- North Americans Latasha Khan of Seattle and Samantha Teran of Mexico City each pounded out lengthy 3-game wins last night to reach today’s semi-finals of the Sun And Surf in Vancouver, BC.

Khan got past Victoria Lust of England 18-16, 11-9, 11-8 in 53 minutes, while Teran beat Egypt’s Engy Kheirallah in a 68-minute 3-game track meet that included a racket-induced injury timeout, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.

Jericho Tennis Club Head Pro Shauna Flath filed this report on the quarterfinals:

It started off smoothly with Jaclyn and Misaki clean, controlled and efficient.  Jaclyn put in what she needed and won in style with a 3-0 performance.  Misaki played well but Jaclyn’s shot selection and overall execution sealed the match in a quick 27mins and definitely has gas in her tank for tomorrow as she has not yet been fully put to the test.

Latasha and Victoria battled….first game 18-16 back and forth tight all the way through.  Latasha continued with solid play and so did Victoria but Latasha pulled through and won the hard long rallies to take the next 2 games 11-9; 11-8 to win in a long 3 games.

“Beds” was exceptional tonight….it has been 4 years since she was last her but her solid presence on the court and her perseverance showed through.  Heba the risk taker took some risks and took the first game but in the end it was the steady play of “Beds” that was solid in every rally. Different styles from both players but overall a great match, entertaining and Emma closed it out in 4.

Then the last match Engy and Samantha…first two games were errors off of Engy’s racquet and Samantha did what she does best just getting  the ball back and waiting for the mistake from Engy.  Then the 3rd…..Samantha hit with Engy in the face with her racquet….Engy..dizzy, took her time and some ice….Karim will be very proud that she can take a hit to the chin…she’s got a bruise but nothing serious.  Once she regrouped she went back on the court put in a great effort but Samantha closed it out in 3.

Semi finals will be good tomorrow and everyone is looking forward to it!
