Diana Nyad Ends Cuba To Florida Swim Attempt After 29 Hours from DailySquashReport.com
August 9, 2011-
Diana Nyad, a visible member of the New York City squash scene in the
late 1970’s, has failed in her second attempt to swim from Cuba
to Key West, Florida, it has been reported.
She ended the swim after 29 hours in 85-plus degree water. She was at approximately the half-way point of the 103-mile crossing.
Nyad’s first attempt was 33
years ago in 1978. On that swim, she was assisted by several New York
squash players and a couple of pros, including Wendy Lawrence, now the
Head Coach at George Washington University. Lawrence went on to write
an accounting of the adventure for the New York Times.
