Teenage Egyptian qualifier Yathreb Adel served notice that she is an
emerging star with a convincing four-game win yesterday over
second-seed and World #28 Latasha Khan of Seattle in the semifinals of the $9000
Orange County Open in Irvine, California.
She will meet top-seeded Dipika Pallikal of India in today’s
final.
Pallikal, WIPSA-ranked #24, handled Japan’s Misaki Kobayashi
in
three to earn the finals.
In the round-of-16 and quarterfinals respectively, the 15-year-old Adel
dominated the current Canadian national champion and runner-up,
Miranda Ranieri and Stephanie Edmison, with both matches concluding in
under 25 minutes.
