Philadelphia SquashSmarts Looking For Volunteer
Instructors & Academic Tutors
Posted September 14, 2011
What is SquashSmarts?
SquashSmarts is a free after-school program for Philadelphia School
District students in grades 5-12. Our mission is to combine the sport
of squash with academic tutoring and mentoring of under-served, urban
youth in order to develop self-esteem and discipline through academic,
athletic and personal achievement.
Volunteer Opportunities
SquashSmarts is offering caring individuals a unique opportunity to
connect with and improve the lives of young student-athletes.
Volunteers may choose between academics and squash-fitness and are
asked to commit to either one afternoon per week or two afternoons per
month for at least three months, and preferably longer! This helps our
staff ensure a more meaningful relationship develops between our
students and volunteers.
Academic Tutors: Academic
tutors work one-on-one with students on a daily enrichment curriculum
which focuses on the basics of literacy and math as well as college and
career preparation and daily homework assignments. No prior tutoring or
squash experience is required. Academic tutors needed Monday through
Thursday from 4:15pm to 6:15pm.
Squash Instructors: Squash
instructors drill, practice and share their love of squash with one or
two students per session. A basic knowledge of the game is required.
Squash instructors needed Monday through Thursday from 4:15pm to 6:15pm
and Saturdays from 10am to 12pm.
We look forward to hearing from you!
