- World #28 Latasha Khan of Washington state launched herself into the finals of the #12,000 Southwest Open yesterday with a four-game quarterfinal win followed by a same-day straight-set semifinal win at Lifetime Fitness in Tempe, Arizona.

Khan, at age 38, last month became the second-oldest player to win a WISPA tournament when she captured the Tour 8 Hamptons Open in Southampton, New York.

In yesterday’s afternoon encounter in Tempe, Latasha needed 60 minutes to take care of gritty South African Tenille Werwe, 11-9 in the fourth.

In the semi-final nightcap, Khan dominated top-ranked Canadian Miranda Ranieri in a decisive 24-minute three.

Ranieri had scored a minor upset of England’s Victoria Lust in the quarters.

In today’s final, Khan will face Nicolette Fernandes of Guyana, who beat red-hot Egyptian teenager Yathreb Adel in the first round and scored a quarterfinal upset yesterday over second-seeded Manuela Manetta of Italy.

Khan will be gunning for her eighth career WISPA title.
