Seattle’s Latasha Khan Wins Southwest Open For 9th Career WISPA Title from DailySquashReport.com
September 19, 2011- Much attention was paid to
the several international rising-star teenagers in the draw, but in the end it was
the steady veteran Latasha Khan who swept to victory in the $12,000
Tempe, Arizona Southwest Open on Saturday, with a 3-1 finals win over
Nicolette Fernandes of Guyana.
The 38-year-old Khan has won two of the last three WISPA events she has
entered. She captured the Mohawk New York Open last month, becoming the
second-oldest WISPA titlist. Last week she was beaten in the semis of
the Orange County Open by 15-year-old talented Egyptian Yathreb Adel.
Adel lost to Fernandes 11-9 in the 5th on Thursday in the first round of the Southwest Open.
Latasha now heads to Brooklyn, New York, where she will try to survive
a tough qualifying field and grab one of four open spots in the $50,000
Carol Weymuller Open.
Seven of the world’s top-ten ranked WISPA players are entered.
