Hanscom Reviews The Weymuller Semi-Finals, Calls The Finals
from Bob Hanscom

September 30, 2012 - Here are the reviews of the semi-final predictions, results and comments from the $50,000 Women's Squash Association Carol Weymuller Squash Open being held at Heights Casino in Brooklyn, New York taking place yesterday afternoon. In addition, predictions for tomorrow's final match.

Nour El Sherbini versus Raneem El Weleily

The Prediction: Another upset here! We're going out on a limb and picking Nour to upset Raneem in four games.
The Result: Raneem El Weleily defeated Nour El Sherbini three games to one.
Comment: Well....we went out on a limb, picked the correct score line, but the limb broke and reversed the decision...the world #2, Raneem El Weleily holding her seeding and earning her a place in the finals with Laura Massaro.

Alison Waters versus Laura Massaro

The Prediction: No upset here! Laura should fend off Alison, the upset player of the tournament - and continue her winning ways to the final against Nour.
The Result: Laura Massaro defeated Alison Waters in three straight games.
Comment: As predicted, "No upset here!" Laura dominated throughout the match, preventing Alison from attacking her as she did against Nicol David in the quarters, earning herself a place in the finals with Raneem El Weleily.

Prediction for the finals with world #2 Raneem El Weleily of Egypt meeting world #3 Laura Massaro of England...

The Prediction:  A tough one! We have two completely different styles of play here. World #3 Laura Massaro has a steady, patient and accurate game, backing it up with great retrieving and the level of fitness necessary to maintain style of game.

On the other side, world #2 Raneem El Weleily is the more flamboyant, shot-making player - and when this is working, is almost unbeatable!  But, if she becomes impatient and chooses to attack too soon or aim too low, she'll succumb to Laura. However, Raneem is playing the best squash of her 23 years, having it "all together," which should result in her being victorious over Laura, maybe in four games.

Stay tuned!
