- Both top-seeded Siyoli Waters of South Africa and second seed Lauren Selby of England had to go the distance to grind out semi-final victories last night in the $6000 Dread Sports WISPA Open at Sports Club/LA in DC.

Waters beat Japan’s Misaki Kobayashi 11-9 in the fifth in 45 minutes, while Selby squeezed past Merhan Amr Mahmoud of Egypt in 55 minutes, also by 11-9 in the fifth game.

The Waters match included a  hard collision that appeared to discombobulate Kobayashi for a stretch, though she was able to recover and extend to an 8-5 fifth game lead before being overtaken.

In the Selby match, Mahmoud was up 9-8 in the fifth but yielded two consecutive stroke calls at that point which enabled Selby to close it out.
