Top-seeded Siyoli Waters of South Africa beat second seed Lauren Selby
of England in four games yesterday to capture the $7000 Dread Open at
the Sports Club/LA in Washington, DC.
At one stretch Waters won 15 of 16 points, but she nonetheless had to
withstand two tie-break games to prevail in four: 11-6 12-10 12-14 11-2.
It is the second tour victory of the summer for the 28-year-old Waters,
who beat Song Sun-Mi of Korea to nab the Hitachi Queensland
Australia Open in July.
Selby’s previous best 2011 result was a semi-final effort at the Edinburg Open in Scotland last January.
Selby, ranked #57 by WISPA, will return to European club play while #51 Waters heads to southern
California where she is the fifth-seed in the $10,000 Orange County
Open, beginning Thursday. RESULTS:
