September 9, 2011 - Stephanie Edmison of Canada upset seventh-seed Thaisa Serafini of Brazil 11-7 in the fifth to advance to the quarterfinals of the $9000 WISPA Orange County Open last night, but Canadian national champion and #4 seed Miranda Ranieri was steamrolled by Egyptian qualifier Yathreb Adel in 19 minutes.

Seeds held form in the other six first round matches, with only #3 Manuela Manetta of Italy being extended to five, by Egyptian Salma Hany.
