Jay Dolan Captures PST New England Open from Tour Media
Tarit Rao-Chakravorti, Jay Dolan
October 15, 2014 - Jay Dolan beat Tarit Rao-Chakravorti in four games to win this year's New England Open. Game score were 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5. Tournament action was played at Brandeis University. Dolan was a four-time
All-NESCAC player while competing for Middlebury College. He is now
based in Brookline, MA and trains at Boston's Tennis & Racquet Club. The 52 minute final
featured two players moving around each other smoothly. There was one
'no let' decision by the referee, one stroke call and four replayed
rallies. Rallies in games one and two were long with Dolan often outlasting Rao-Chakravorti's shot selection. Game three saw a more aggressive Rao-Chakravorti, and his shot making allowed him to eke out a close victory. But the shots that were slotting smoothly in game three became unforced errors in game four, which Dolan won comfortably. Earlier rounds were
played to the best of three games. Dolan beat former Bowdoin College
standout David Funk 11-8, 11-6 in his semi-final match. Rao-Chakravorti prevailed over Eric Lamsa in his semi-final. Game scores were 11-6, 4-11, 11-6. Quarter final action
saw David Funk beat Ben Clayman 2-0. Eric Lamsa beat Wit Gan 2-0. Jay
Dolan beat Sid Mehra 2-0. And Tarit Rao-Chakravorti beat Michael Liang
2-0.
