Line Hansen Over Emily Whitlock for WSA Southern California Title from WSA Media
September 30, 2013
- Another great week at the Equinox Orange County Open finished on a
high note as Line Hansen won her 13th WSA title with a nail-biting
80-minute marathon victory over Emily Whitlock in the final.
Whitlock recovered
well after a brutal 90-minute semifinal battle the previous day against
Tesni Evans and evened things up against Hansen after finding herself
1-0 down and then 2-1 down.
The last time these two players met was in the final of the Black
Knight Open in 2012 in which the Dane won in straight games and that
experience could have given her the edge as she crept ahead and secured
victory, 11-8 in the fifth.
It is Hansen’s second title of 2013 after winning the NSC Series No.1 back in March.
Hansen had this to say
after: “My first time to Orange County and first time in California.
All the players have been looked after so well, great club hotel right
next door, dinners and boat trip! Don’t think any of the players can
complain. Obviously really happy to win, there has been so many good
and long matches. I’ll love to come back again next year.”
Both players will now
head across the country to New York to play in the Carol Weymuller
Open, with qualifying starting tomorrow.
