Schweertman Sweeps to White Oaks Court Classic Crown by Sean Reuthe
October 19, 2015
- Dutchman Piedro Schweertman secured the Black Knight & Copacabana
White Oaks Court Classic, PSA M5 title with an impressive 3-0
dismantling of compatriot Sebastiaan Weenink in the final.
The 32-year-old saw off surprise semi-finalist Andres Felipe Herrera to
progress to the showpiece event having dropped just a solitary game
throughout the whole tournament. Weenink meanwhile downed home hope
Michael McCue to seal his final berth.
World No.74 Schweertman came out on top in a close opener that saw both
players going all out as they sought to take the early initiative.
Schweertman was slightly more accurate with the length and width on his
drives and he climbed into an 11-8 victory in the first game.
Weenink struggled to live with the elder Dutchman in the second as he
succumbed to a barrage of attacking squash to go two games down heading
into game three.
Schweertman pressed on in the third to complete an 11-8, 11-2, 11-4
triumph, lifting his second PSA World Tour title of 2015 and the
seventh of his career in the process.
"I think Sebastiaan was tired after his tough match with McCue yesterday,” said Schweertman.
“I had to be 100 per cent to beat him and I was the fresher player
today. I enjoyed the tournament very much and it is good to see such a
big squash community here, it is intimate and like a big family. There
are lots of juniors here and the level is quite high, higher than in
the Netherlands.
“I’m off to Halifax [Canada, for the Welaptega Bluenose Squash Classic] qualification now.”
