Majestic Moverley Captures Open International des Volcans Title by Sean Reuthe
October 19, 2015 -
Number one seed Fiona Moverley dashed French hopes in the final of the
Open International des Volcans, PSA W5 tournament with a straight games
defeat of second seed Chloe Mesic.
The World No.50 knocked out fellow Englishwomen Alison Thomson and
Georgina Kennedy en-route to the final while Mesic came through a
gruelling five-game semi-final against Canada’s Danielle Letourneau.
Moverley wore her opponent down in the first game by moving her to all
four corners of the court with a succession of tight drives and
accurate drops, achieving an 11-7 victory in the process.
That seemed to break Mesic’s resolve in the second and third games as
Moverley surged through to complete an impressive 11-7, 11-3, 11-2
triumph.
That victory brought about Moverley’s second PSA World Tour title of
2015 as she continues her meteoric rise up the World Rankings, having
been ranked as low as 111 at the start of the year.
