Diego Elias Upsets Alister Walker on Day One in Montreal by Nathan Clarke

- 17-year-old World Junior Champion Diego Elias pulled off one of the
biggest wins of his career to date to see off World No.25 and number
eight seed Alister Walker in the first round of the PSA International
35, Open de squash Financière Banque Nationale tournament in Montreal,
Canada.
The Peruvian, ranked
No.66 in the world, came through 3-1 against the former World No.12 in
a 90-minute battle - winning 14-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 t- o claim his
second victory over a top 30 ranked player inside a month, having
defeated South African Stephen Coppinger during September's Abierto
Mexicano de Raquetas tournament.
Elias will now face
fellow South American Miguel Angel Rodriguez, the Colombian World No.14
who beat him in the quarter-finals of the recent Pan-American
Championship, after the 28-year-old eased past Canadian hopeful Shawn
Delierre 3-0.
Scotland's Alan Clyne,
who impressed in his encounter with World No.1 Gregory Gaultier during
the recent Delaware investments US Open, continued his run of form to
take out number six seed Coppinger in a hard-fought 3-2: 6-11, 11-7,
11-7, 7-11, 11-3 victory which he sealed in 70-minutes.
The World No.38 will
now take on Frenchman Mathieu Castagnet in the quarter-finals while
tournament top seeds Borja Golan and Darly Selby, the World No.7 and 9
respectfully, began their campaigns in style, dispatching Canadian
qualifiers Shahier Razik and Dane Sharp 3-0.
