David In Search Of Lucky Number Seven In Hong Kong from WSA Media
October 23, 2012
- The draw for the Cathay Pacific Sun Hung Kai Financial Hong Kong
Squash Open 2012 sees Nicol David as top seed and looking to retain the
title for the seventh successive year.
David will start her campaign on 27th November in the 32-draw WSA World
Series event against Englishwoman Sarah Kippax who won back-to-back
titles in the U.S. earlier in the summer. Kippax’s English
compatriot Laura Massaro is seeded second for the competition and will
face Jaclyn Hawkes of New Zealand for the first time since the Kiwi’s
surprise victory over her in the 2009 Irish Open.
Raneem El Weleily’s absence from the tournament sees Jenny Duncalf
seeded third, with the Englishwoman looking for her first WSA World
Tour semi-final appearance in over a year. She will play unseeded
Malaysian Delia Arnold having never lost to the 26-year-old in four
head-to-heads.
Fourth and fifth seeds Annie Au and Madeline Perry will both play
qualifying opponents in round one, with Au seeded to face Low Wee Wern
in the quarters. Perry is predicted to face Nicol David in the
last-eight, but will have to make it past No.9 seed Kasey Brown or her
qualifying opponent in round two.
Seventh seed Wee Wern will also face a qualifier whilst Alison Waters,
enjoying her first seeding in a World Series event since March 2011,
will play fellow Englishwoman Emma Beddoes. Natalie Grinham
begins her campaign as eighth seed with a yet to be confirmed
qualifying opponent, and is drawn to meet Jenny Duncalf in the quarters.
Last week’s Macau Open winner Joelle King will look to continue her
promising recent form against a qualifier, as will No.14 seed Samantha
Teran of Mexico.
Eleventh seed Camille Serme faces Aisling Blake of Ireland, No.12
Dipika Pallikal plays local Liu Tsz-Wing, No.13 Rachael Grinham will
play fellow tour veteran Latasha Khan, 14th seed Donna Urquhart is
drawn against Line Hansen and No.15 Joey Chan will face a
qualifier.
Reigning Hong Kong champion Nicol David has never faced the same
opponent in a Hong Kong final, but last year added Raneem El Weleily to
the list of runners-up, which features Jenny Duncalf, Omneya Abdel
Kawy, Rachael and Natalie Grinham and former world No.4 Tania
Bailey.
