Canadians Rally Past U. S. To Capture 2012 Can-Am Cup by Rob Dinerman
Dateline October 29th
--- After falling well behind late Saturday afternoon, the Canadian
team finished off that day with a strong surge to deadlock matters (at
35 points apiece), then dominated the middle-aged groups in the
decisive “lightning-round” on Sunday to emerge with a thoroughly
deserved 43.5-40.5 triumph in the third biennial Can-Am Cup, held this
year in Buffalo. Each of the two Canadian Open women’s teams, Steph
Edmison/Jess DiMauro and Seanna Keating/Steph Hewitt, scored victories
over the No. 1 American pairing of Dana Betts and Emily Lungstrum (with
Edmison/DiMauro also out-playing Natalie Grainger and Kelsey Engman to
jump-start Canada’s Saturday comeback), and former ISDA pro standouts
Scott Stoneburgh, Michael Pirnak, Alan Grant, Pat Richardson and Chris
Deratnay all contributed important wins, especially, as noted, in the
Sunday wrap-up, during which Team Canada won 13 of the day’s 18 men’s
matches to provide the margin of victory.
