Willstrop Holds Onto World No1 Ranking
from PSA Media

1 October 2012 - Despite losing to his rival in the final of the Springfield Solutions British Grand Prix last month, James Willstrop maintains his lead over fellow Englishman Nick Matthew at the top of the new October Dunlop PSA Men's World Squash Rankings, published today by the Professional Squash Association.

The climax of the PSA International 70 event in Manchester marked the Yorkshire pair's 30th clash on the PSA World Tour - but Matthew extended his near-five-year unbeaten run over the 29-year-old from Leeds to retain the title.

Matthew is in second place in the new list, while Frenchman Gregory Gaultier holds onto third place and Egypt's Karim Darwish moves up to No4, ahead of his fellow countryman Ramy Ashour who slips to fifth place.

With Amr Shabana at No7, and Mohamed El Shorbagy and Omar Mosaad in 8th and 10th positions, respectively, Egyptians continue to occupy 50% of the world top ten!

And it is an Egyptian who celebrates the biggest leap in the top 20: Tarek Momen, the 24-year-old from Cairo who stunned the squash world by clinching two titles in September, rises six places to a career-high 13.

It was after winning the Colombian Open for the first time in Bogota that Momen, unseeded, claimed the biggest title of his career in Selangor where he defeated second-seeded compatriot Mohamed El Shorbagy in the final of the CIMB Malaysian Open.
