Massaro Gains Last Minute Edge In October WSA Rankings from Matt Wagg
October 2, 2012
- Laura Massaro’s title win on the last day of September was perfectly
timed for the Englishwoman to leap to her highest ever WSA World Tour
ranking.
In defeating Raneem El Weleily in yesterday’s Carol Weymuller Open
final, Massaro not only prevented the Egyptian from retaining the
trophy, but also leapfrogs her opponent to occupy the world No2 spot
behind World Champion Nicol David.
Below them, teenage prodigy Nour El Sherbini rises to her highest
ranking to date as her Carol Weymuller Open semi-final appearance
pushes the 16-year-old up to No5. Alison Waters, Low Wee Wern and
Natalie Grinham all rise one place this month to occupy No8, 9 and 10
respectively, forcing Kasey Brown down three places and just outside
the top 10. Wee Wern's No9 spot is a career high for the young
Malaysian.
Lauren Briggs rises four places to No30 after a semi-final appearance
in the Atlantis Open, whilst eventual winner Nour El Tayeb rises into
the top 20.
Siti Munriah Jusoh and Lauren Selby rise four and six places
respectively top occupy their highest ranking places at No33 and 34,
while Kylie Lindsay gains three places to sit at No36.
Coline Aumard also sits at her highest ranking this month at No39, as
does Liu Tsz-Ling at No40 and Lisa Aitken and Southwest Open winner
Maria Toor Pakay who gain eight places each to No42 and 44.
