October 4, 2012

At Drexel:

Martin Knight (Nzl) v Jamie Macaulay (Sco)
The world #45 Knight will handle the popular local qualifier Macaulay in straights.

Knight 3-0

Siddharth Suchde (Ind) v Joe Russell (Eng)
Suchde, the #2 Indian player, will be too much for the second-tier UK veteran Russell.

Suchde 3-0

Miguel Angel Rodriguez (Col) v John White (Sco)
The Colombian is ranked 20th and is on the rise. Former world #1 White could steal a game on his home courts, but at age 39 that would be it, and probably unlikely.

Rodriguez 3-1

Steve Coppinger (Rsa) v Adrian Waller (Eng)
Both players are ranked in the top 50. Waller is only 22-years-old and on the move, but the South African veteran should be in control.

Coppinger 3-1

At the Racquet Club of Philadelphia:

Shahier Razik (Can) v Yasir Butt (Pak)
Toronto's Razik is nearly 35 but still moves and grinds well. Pakistan's Butt is 10 years younger but will get schooled in this one.

Razik 3-1

Gregoire Marche (Fra) v Christopher Hanson (Usa)
The world #41 from Aix-en-Provence will take care of the Dartmouth College senior.

Marche 3-0

Max Lee (Hkg) v Graham Bassett (Usa)
Graham is a savy veteran, but Lee is young and hungry and in the top 35.

Lee 3-0

Zac Alexander (Aus) v Matthew Karwalski (Aus)
A battle of young Aussies who train in the US. Alexander's game and results are a bit ahead of Karwalski's, but this will be close.

Alexander 3-2

At Merion:

Ryan Cuskelly (Aus) v Alex Stait (Eng)
The world #32 Cuskelly will control proceedings against the veteran from Manchester.

Cuskelly 3-0

Karim Abdel Gawad (Egy) v Campbell Grayson (Nzl)
Young rising Egyptian Gawad, at world #32, will be pressed by Grayson but won't lose a game.

Gawad 3-0

Alan Clyne (Sco) v Todd Harrity (Usa)
Clyne of Scotland reached the quarters of the August Australian Open and will be too much for the former Intercollegiate champ Harrity, though Todd may win a game on effort and atmosphere.

Clyne 3-1

Shawn Delierre (Can) v Omar Abdel Aziz (Egy)
This will be a good one. Aziz reached the quarters of the August Australian Open, losing to Cameron Pilley in five. Delierre crashed out of the recent Nash Cup, but he is a tough out.

Aziz 3-2

At Germantown:

Chris Simpson (Eng) v Joe Lee (Eng)
Simpson beat Lee in a long three in the recent British Grand Prix. This one should go four.

Simpson 3-1

Julian Illingworth (Usa) v Dylan Murray (Usa)
Unless he gets nervous, Julian, coming off three straight PSA Challenger wins, will dominate the talented US junior champ. This is the match you want to see, but not for three years.

Illingworth 3-0

Marwan El Shorbagy (Egy) v Cesar Salazar (Mex)
This has the potential to be a battle. Both Salazar and world junior champion El Shorbagy have struggled to find their form so far this fall. If the court gets hot, Salazar could win.

El Shorbagy 3-1

Aamir Atlas Khan (Pak) v Henrik Mustonen (Fin)
This is a pick-em. Khan, at 22, is the top Pakistani and ranked #40. Mustonen is 21 and ranked 43rd.

Khan 3-2
