Dateline October 4th
– DSR has learned that the second annual Squash Summit that US Squash
had scheduled for October 13-14 during the US Open has been cancelled.
Throughout the past few months, US Squash had been intensively
promoting the Summit – for which it was charging prospective
attendees a hefty $200 registration fee --- as “a gathering of the
industry’s most influential people to share insights and spark
discussions that will help shape the future of squash,” boasting that
it would provide a forum wherein “the best and brightest minds in
squash will drive the sport forward” and claiming that it would
constitute an opportunity for squash’s district leaders, club owners,
event promoters, coaches and professionals to collaborate, innovate,
network and grow. US Squash had booked the impressive Behrakis Grand
Hall on Chestnut Street in down-town Philadelphia to host this two-day
extravaganza and had announced plans to make presentation and session
documents available online afterwards for paid conference attendees.
The cancellation of what had been billed as such a high-profile part of
the US Open tournament therefore comes as a bit of a shock and was
reportedly caused by a paucity of registrants.
