US Open Men's First Round Predictions from DailySquashReport.com
Saturday October 6, 2012 - First Round - Top-Half
12pm Daryl Selby (Eng) v [Q] Omar Abdel Aziz (Egy)
Qualifier Aziz begins with momentum, but world #11 Selby stabilizes and wins in four.
Selby 3-1
1pm [1] James Willstrop (Eng) v Alister Walker (Bot)
The world #1 deflects a game effort from #12 Walker of Botswana.
Willstrop 3-0
2pm Cameron Pilley (Aus) v Steve Coppinger (Rsa)
The Aussie has been in a slump since the spring, while Coppinger has had some good results. But it won't matter.
Pilley 3-1
3pm [8] Mohamed El Shorbagy (Egy) v Simon Rosner (Ger)
This could be a good one, with both players in strong form. Shorbagy is
#8, Rosner #18, but Rosner reached the quarters of the recent British
Grand Prix, losing to world #3 Greg Gaultier in four. El Shorbagy lost
to Tarek Momen in the finals of the Malysian Open in a 109-minute war.
El Shorbagy 3-2
5pm [5] Karim Darwish (Egy) v [Q] Max Lee (Hkg)
Lee with a solid qualifying run, but former world #1 Darwish too good,
Darwish 3-0
6pm Hisham Ashour (Egy) v Christopher Gordon (Usa)
The 26-year-old US #2 always gives a blue-collar effort, but world #15 Ashour with too much racquet here.
Ashour 3-0
7pm [3] Gregory Gaultier (Fra) v Olli Tuominen (Fin)
This could be a match. Tuominen is a dangerous player and won the
European Individuals in May. He may grab a game against the world #3,
and the others will be competitive.
Gaultier 3-1
8pm Borja Golan (Esp) v [Q] Joe Lee (Eng)
The 23-year old Lee from London with a great qualifying effort, topping
Chris Simpson in 111 minutes and then dominating Cesar Salzar. That
said, the world #16 from Santiago de Copostela won't fool around here.
