Men's Round-of-16 Predictions from DailySquashReport.com
Monday October 8, 2012
James Willstrop v Daryl Selby
Selby is ranked 11th and is a tough out. World #1 Willstrop beat him in
three in the British Grand Prix, but it was a lengthy match.
Willstrop 3-1
Cameron Pilley v Mohammed El Shorbagy
A good matchup. El Shorbagy is ranked 8th, Pilley is 17th. Pilley has
had a sub-par 2012, but he did reach the semis of the August Australian
Open, losing to Ramy Ashour in a tight four. El Shorbagy had the tougher
US Open first round, which may be a slight edge.
El Shorbagy 3-2
Karim Darwish v Christopher Gordon
World #72 Gordon on a high after a career win in the first round over
Hisham Ashour. Darwish, a former world #1, won't want to let the crowd
or atmosphere become a factor and will take care of business. Chris
could steal a game, but probably not.
Darwish 3-0
Borja Golan v Gregorgy Gaultier
Normally Gaultier could get pushed around a bit by Golan, but Gaultier
was so dominant in his first round, allowing only six points to Olli
Tuominen, that it's hard to see him dropping a game.
Gaultier 3-0
Ramy Ashour v Tarek Momen
Momen, the world #13, had a good September, capturing both the
Colombian and Malaysian Opens. Ashour may not be quite where he was before
last season's hamstring injury, so Momen could make it interesting, but
he won't win.
Ashour 3-1
Tom Richards v Peter Barker
Both UK players. Barker is ranked 6th, Richards is 14th. The players
have had similar results of late, but Barker got to the quarters here
last year which always counts.
Barker 3-1
Amr Shabana v Laurens Jan Anjema
Anjema, the world #9, is a difficult match. Shabana is 33, and hasn't
competed much this fall. Still, he is the defending champion here and
is
eyeing the deeper part of the draw.
Shabana 3-1
Adrian Grant v Nick Matthew
19th-ranked Grant has the game to upset anyone, but Matthew is in
strong early-season form, having claimed last month's British Grand
Prix, and is looking toward the endgame.
Matthew 3-0
