DSR Predicts Today's US Open Quarters from DailySquashReport.com
Tuesday October 9, 2012
MEN (top half)
James Willstrop v Mohamed El Shorbagy
Both players with lengthy matches yesterday and no day off - Willstrop
needing 81 minutes to subdue Selby in four, El Shorbagy extended the
full five by Pilley. In regular-format 2012 events, James has only been
beaten by Matthew and Ramy Ashour, and that won't change here. Willstrop 3-1
Karim Darwish v Gregory Gaultier
A good one. World #4 Darwish essentially untested so far, #3 Gaultier
in charge against respectable opponents Tuominen and Golan. Gaultier is
2-0 against the Egyptian in 2012 and pushed Willstrop to 15-13 in the
fifth in last month's British Grand Prix. Gaultier 3-1
WOMEN (top half)
Nicol David v Alison Waters
Waters took the initiative against the world #1 in the recent Weymuller
and scored a major upset. David is focused and fresh here, with Waters
going five in a tough qualifier against El Tayeb, and again with
Natalie Grinham in yesterday's first round. Not this time. David 3-0
Jenny Duncalf v Joelle King
This should be good. World #12 King is probably playing the best squash
of her career. She dominated her qualifying rounds and put away
dangerous 5th-ranked Nour El Sherbini yesterday in three. World #4
Duncalf has struggled this fall, getting knocked out in the 2nd round
of the Australian and the quarters of the Malaysian and the Weymuller.
King has the momentum, but the matchup favors Jenny. Duncalf 3-2
