John White/John Russell and Steve Scharff/Phil Barker Qualify Through In $20K Big Apple Open from DailySquashReport.com

- Former PSA World #1 John White is proving he can play some hardball
doubles as well, as he and partner John Russell ground out two
qualifying rounds yesterday to advance to the main draw round-of-eight
in the $20,000 2012 SDA Big Apple Open at the New York Athletic Club.
Russell and White will meet fourth seeds Clive Leach and Paul Price today at 3:00pm.
White/Russell began the day beating Jacques Swanepoel and Shaun
Johnstone in a tight three, and then went back and forth with the team
of Chris Walker and Mark Price in the qualifying final, nursing home a
15-10 fifth game.
Scharff and Barker were presented a first round default and then upset
Bernardo Samper and Raj Nanda, coming from two-zip down to win 15-12 in
the fifth. They will take on Preston Quick and Matt Jenson today at
4:00pm.
World #1s Damien Mudge and Ben Gould will kick off main draw play against Jonny Smith and Greg Park at 2:00pm.
