- Camille Serme has been named Squash Player’s Female Player of the
Month for November after becoming the first French woman to win the US
Open.
The 27-year-old sixth seed defeated world no.2 Laura Massaro in the
quarter-finals and world no.1 Nour El Sherbini in the final of the
$150,000 tournament in October to claim the 11th PSA World Tour title
of her career.
“To be honest, I had no real ambition for this tournament, except
enjoying playing again and trying to apply what I had been working on
with my coach [Philippe Signoret] in the last 10 days before the start
of the US Open.
“After losing in the first round of the Al-Ahram Open, I was a bit lost
and my coach and I really wondered what we should do to improve, so
winning this US Open, my second major title, was amazing!
“I think I was very focused on what to do tactically on court and wasn’t thinking about what was at stake or who I was playing.
“I think it was as important and big as winning the British Open last year, because it came at a difficult time for me.”
