Victoria Lust Wins WSA McWill Toronto Classic from Tour Media
November 26, 2012 - Victoria Lust claimed her first title in over a year at the 2012 McWill NSA Fall Classic in Toronto Canada.
Entering just her fifth WSA World Tour event of 2012, the 23-year-old
from Luton, England seeded fourth for the event, quickly showed her
opponents what they had been missing in her absence.
The world No.68 dominated her opening round match against qualifier
Antonella Falcione, and similar performances against No.5 seed Megan
Craig and seventh seed Olivia Blatchford propelled Lust into her
thirteenth tour final.
Number two seed Maria Toor Pakay had suffered a surprise defeat at the
hand of Blatchford in the quarters, but the progressing USA national
had no answer for the Englishwoman in the semi’s.
In the final, Lust faced Welsh prospect Tesni Evans who was starring in
just her second WSA final. The 20-year-old third seed played out
a comfortable win against local Alix Younger, before dispatching
qualifier Leonie Holt in four games in the quarter finals.
Evans’ biggest triumph came in the semi-final she battled to a
surprising five-game win over home favourite and top seed, Samantha
Cornett. The Welshwoman came from a game down to lead the
contest, before stemming a late comeback from the Canadian to progress
to the final.
Evans’ marathon semi-final contest looked to have slowed her opening
efforts in the final, as Lust rose quickly to a two-game lead.
The higher seed fought back in the third however, claiming two narrow
victories to tie the match and set up a deciding fifth game.
Experience won through in the final game as Lust, three years Evans’
senior, added title No.5 to her haul and extended the third seed’s wait
for her maiden WSA title.
