----- Matt Jenson, who for the past half-dozen years has been a
top-tier performer on the pro doubles circuit, is scheduled to undergo
surgery today on his left Achilles tendon, which ruptured two weeks ago
in Atlanta during a quarterfinal match at the PDC Open. Jenson and his
partner Preston Quick were ahead 1-1, 12-4 against Imran Khan and Greg
Park when Jenson accelerated to the front wall and heard the dreaded
pop.
This injury generally requires a rehabilitation period of
anywhere from six months to a full year, and Jenson will therefore be
sidelined for the remainder of the SDA 1914-15 schedule. In a telephone
interview earlier this week from his home in Denver, the
Australian-born Jenson, one of the most popular and durable players
throughout his dozen years on the tour, made it clear that he is fully
committed to a complete recovery and a return to the competitive scene
next season.
