From the Cheap Seats

November 27, 2018 - Plenty of interesting feedback (largely off the record) on the thoughts from Monday about modern refereeing.

It was nice to have refs and former refs weigh in, and it was good to hear from Joe McManus, the founder of the PST.

Guessing I'm not alone in missing Joe's presence and his colorful weekly Squash E-Zine.

One thought, based on some feedback: If the WSF and PSA have adjusted the interference rule, and for the IOC's benefit - wouldn't it be interesting if an IOC member actually watched a modern squash match and came away saying: 'This sport doesn't know what it's doing. The one guy clearly blocked the other one!'

Secondly, Guy Cipriano's passionate Letter to the Editor follows in the next posting.

I agree with much of what Guy says.

Yes, college squash adheres to NCAA rules - but so what? It has its own governing body, the College Squash Association.

The CSA needs to finally step up, set sensible guidelines and take control of the sport.

(But they won't.)

The CSA has an executive director, 5 Board of Directors' 'Independent Directors', and 4 Board of Directors' 'Coach Directors'.

Hmm. 10 of them. All good people no doubt, but the set-up sounds inefficient in terms of getting much done.
