Hollie In Home Title Breakthrough by Howard Harding
December 14, 2014
- Canada's Hollie Naughton claimed the maiden WSA World Tour title of
her career when she beat Pakistan opponent Maria Toorpakai Wazir in the
final of the inaugural Women's ORC Open at her home club in Mississauga.
Seeded two, the 20-year-old world No.65 reached the final of the WSA
Tour 5 squash event at the Ontario Racquet Club after seeing off
Canadian team-mate Nikki Todd, the third seed, in the semi-finals.
Fourth seed Wazir upset the form book in the other semi when she took out top-seeded South African Cheyna Tucker.
Naughton twice came from behind in the final - then saved two
match-balls in the decider to beat Wazir 8-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-1, 12-10
in 51 minutes to make her Tour title breakthrough.
"It means the world to me to win my first WSA title here at home," said the jubilant Naughton.
