Reader: US Squash Needs to Respond to Outrageous Calls for Muslim Ban
December 14, 2015
U.S. Squash should take great pride in the
recent hosting of the World Championships, and in the upcoming
Tournament of Champions. It is shameful, however, that the
association has not seen fit to make a response to the outrageous calls
of various presidential candidates for complete or partial bans on
Muslim immigrants and visitors to the U.S. Our sport would be
poor indeed without the contributions of the Khan family and other
Muslims over the years. A quick count suggests that a third of
the current top fifty men are Muslim, and these include some of the
most exciting and beloved players on the tour. Squash is a small
sport without a powerful voice, but that is no excuse for failing to
use that voice.
