Rob Dinerman’s Racquets & Rivalries Anthology Released
Dateline December 27, 2024--- Rob Dinerman’s latest book, Racquets & Rivalries: Tales and Profiles from 100 Years of New York City Squash,
was released earlier this week. This book is an anthology composed of a
collection of reports, histories and descriptions of some of the most
compelling events and colorful personalities that have made squash in
New York so unique during the century that has passed since the
Metropolitan Squash Racquets Association (later renamed NY
Squash) was founded in January 1924. To celebrate the 100-year
milestone, the NY Squash Board commissioned Dinerman to write one
profile per month throughout Calendar 2024 that was prominently posted
on The Rally, the
Association’s newsletter that is emailed to its membership every month.
NY Squash President Joanne Schickerling and Board members Justin Berlin
and Tom Burns played especially prominent roles in working with
Dinerman throughout the scope of the project, as did John Musto, who provided a master list of MSRA squash figures to profile.
Among the 21 articles comprising the
228-page production were a detailed recount of a national team
championship that came down to literally the (controversial) final
point, a comprehensive description of a contentious, months-long
multi-front confrontation between the New York association and the U.S.
national association, individual profiles of record-setting men's and
women's champions in both singles and doubles, and tributes to some of
squash’s most important visionaries and loyal contributors.
