Big Movers in December Women's Rankings Despite Unchanged Top 5 from WSA Media
Nour El Sherbini
December 1, 2012
- The WSA World Rankings for December have been released, and despite
an unchanged Top5, there are some big changes slightly further
down. Prodigal Egyptian teenager, Nour El Sherbini rises two
places to No.6 this month, just ahead of Low Wee Wern who stays
unchanged at No.7.
Jenny Duncalf continues to struggle for form and finds herself dropping
down to twelfth in the world rankings for December, her lowest ranking
since 2007. Due to this year's World Open being held a month
later that last year's, in which the Englishwoman reached the final,
Duncalf has lost 3,000 points from this month's average. She will
have the chance to bounce back into the Top10 however, should she play
to her seeding in the upcoming Cayman World Open.
Duncalf’s drop has seen Annie Au, Madeline Perry and Kasey Brown all
rise a place, but the biggest mover of the Top10 this month is Indian
favourite Dipika Pallikal. The 21-year-old moves up three places
to occupy No.10 in the world, not only giving her a new career high
ranking, but also making her the most successful Indian player ever.
Sarah-Jane Perry marks the end to a hugely successful year, climbing
six places into the world’s Top30 to sit at No.29. The
22-year-old won the Abierto Mexicano de Raquetas in November, taking
out the top three seeds on her way to fourth WSA title. The
English player was ranked at No.83 twelve months ago and has taken huge
strides in scaling new heights in the world rankings.
Rising one place above Perry is her compatriot, eighteen-year-old Emily
Whitlock whose new ranking is also a career high. Just outside
the Top30, Samantha Cornett edges to another career best, rising one
place No.32, whilst Czech Republic national Lucie Fialova rises an
impressive nine places to occupy No.34, thanks to an unseeded
quarter-final run in the Monte Carlo Classic last month.
Heba El Torky made the biggest leap in the Top50 this month, rising
sixteen places to No.33, and edges closer towards her career high
ranking of No.25 which she held twelve months ago.
Also reaching the Monte Carlo quarters was Lisa Aitken, who has seen
her WSA ranking rise seven places to occupy a personal best of
No.38. The Scottish 22-year-old leapfrogs Amanda Landers Murphy
and Maria Toor Pakay, despite the pair both rising three places each,
to occupy career highs of 39 and 41 respectively. Having reached
the Monte Carlo quarters and made a surprise appearance in the NSA Fall
Classic final, Tesni Evans also rises three places to No.43.
Nicolette Fernandes jumps an impressive twelve places to No.48 after
reaching the semi-finals of the Abierto Mexicano de Raquetas last
month, but is still someway off her career high of No.27 which she
reached back in 2007.
