Canada Advances to Top 12 Placing; Men's Greats Waite, Ryding and Power Honored by Danny Da Costa

- Team Canada scored a come from behind 2-1 victory over India to
advance to guarantee a Top 12 placing at the SHOP.CA Women’s World Team
Squash Championship. Canada now advances to take on #10 seed
Wales on Friday at 2:30 pm.
The opening match saw two of US collegiate squash stars with India’s
Annaka Alankamony defeating Danielle Letourneau of Calgary, AB in 4
games (5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-8) in 41 minutes.
Helped by a boisterous home crowd, Canada’s #1 player Samantha Cornett
from Deep River, ON defeated India’s #1 player and World #22 Joshana
Chinappa 11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6 (53m). Cornett raced to a
fast start taking the opening two games. In the third and fourth
games, Joshana started playing inspired squash to level the
match. Cornett urged on by the nearly 300 Canadian fans took the
decider 11 – 6 to tie the match.
Saskatchewan’s Nikole Todd defeated Sachika Ingale 11-9, 11-3, 11-5
(20m) to give Canada the come from behind win. Todd playing in
her first Women’s World Team Squash Championship has had a strong
tournament for Canada playing in the #3 position.

Squash Canada honoured two of its players during a special ceremony
prior to the start of the England vs. Ireland Quarter-Final
match. Both Gary Waite and Graham Ryding were inducted into Squash Canada’s Wall of Fame.
Former World #1 Jonathon Power will be inducted in the Squash Canada Wall of Fame tomorrow (Friday) at 6:00 pm.
