WDSA Stars Put On Show In Cincinnati from Tour Media
December 5, 2012
- This past weekend the WDSA women headed to the Cincinnati Country
Club for the 1st Women's Pro exhibition, pro am's and clinics hosted by
new head pro Nathan Duggan. Thank you to all who helped make this
new event happen, the women all had a blast!
Nathan Duggan files this report:
The crowd of over 80 spectators had a real treat at the Cincinnati
Country Club, with game filled with attacking flare and intelligent
court craft. The formidable team of Stephanie Hewitt and Meredeth Quick
are the number one ranked on the tour right now and they raced off to a
1-0 game lead last night and it looked as though they were going to
have too much game for the world’s number 3 & 5.
The second game was a different story though as the creativity of Suzie
Pierrepont and particularly Natarsha McElhinny started paying off. They
built a sizable lead only to see it evaporate and we were tied at 14-14
with no set called. This was a pivotal point of the match as a 2-0 game
lead would be hard to come back from. Suzie either didn’t feel the
pressure of the moment or simply missed the importance of the memo, as
she went for an outrageous backhand cross court drop shot from deep in
the court which surprised everyone – maybe even herself – as it rolled
out a winner.
With the games score now tied at 1-1 the fireworks erupted, with any
loose ball being put away for a winner with authority. It was the
greater risk and more aggressive play of Suzie and Natarsha though that
proved the slight difference between the teams in the third and fourth
games, and an engaged crowd witness an upset with the #1 team in the
world toppled with one last deadly reverse corner.
*And
don't forget to come out to the US Open at the Wilmington Country Club
this coming weekend December 7-9.
