Delierre Beats Illingworth In Three In TOC Qualifying Finals from DailySquashReport.com

- Montreal's Shawn Delierre continued an amazing run tonight when he
shut down North American rival Julian Illingworth of the US in straight
games to gain a coveted main draw slot in the $115,000 JP Morgan
Tournament of Champions in New York City.
On Sunday, Delierre needed 157 minutes to beat England's Adrian Waller
to win the National Capital Open, a match which went into the record
books as the longest in the history of PAR scoring, and the longest pro
match of any kind in more than 30 years.
In that same event, Delierre weathered a 114-minute quarterfinal against
Campbell Grayson of New Zealand and a difficult semi against longtime
Canadian #1 Shahier Razik.
Then in yesterday's first round TOC qualifier, with just two days off
after the historic match, Shawn needed 91 minutes to stop Muhammed Azan
of Malaysia 11-8 in the fourth.
Twenty four hours later, Delierre recovered sufficiently to topple the higher-ranked #1 American Illingworth 11-6 11-6 11-7.
He will take on Egyptian Tarek Momen tonight in first round action on the glass at Grand Central.
In other men's qualifier finals:
Campbell Grayson beat Joe Lee in three.
NY-based Aussie Ryan Cuskelly beat Mohammed Reda of Egypt 11-3 in the fifth.
Frenchman Gregoire Marche beat Hong Kong's Max Lee 12-10 in the fifth.
Adrian Waller beat Malaysian Mohammed Adnan in four.
England's Chris Simpson beat Malaysian Abdullah Muzayan 11-3 in the fourth.
Toronto veteran Shahier Razik beat Matthieu Castagnet of France 11-9 in the fourth.
And North American-based Pakistani Yasir Butt upset #2 seed Marwan El
Shorbagy of Egypt, coming from two-zip down to win in dramatic
fashion,11-9 in the fifth.
