- Former world junior champion Amanda Sobhy and current titleholder Nour El Sherbini are
set to match up Sunday afternoon at New York's Princeton Club in final
round TOC women's qualifying play.
El Sherbini needed four games to subdue England's Sarah Kippax while Sobhy dominated fellow American Cecelia Cortes in three.
In a spirited effort,
high shool star Sabrina Sobhy nearly found herself in a fifth game
against world No 19 Line Hansen of Denmark, losing 12-10 in the fourth.
Top-seeded qualifier
Dipika Pallikal of India beat England's Emily Whitlock in three, while
Hong Kong's Annie Au straight-setted Australian Donna Urquhart.
It was Sarah-Jane
Perry of the UK on top of New York's Olivia Blatchford in straights,
and in the most competitive match of the day 36-year-old Aussie Rachael
Grinham outlasted Joey Chan of Hong Kong 13-11 in the fifth.
