Schoor Shines In Historic All-German PSA Final by Howard Harding
21 January 2013
- In an historic first ever all-German PSA World Tour final, Jens
Schoor upset second seed Raphael Kandra to win the Club Esportiu
Rocafort XV Open Internacional d'squash Esportiu Rocafort in Barcelona,
Spain.
Schoor, the third seed from Koblenz, made his breakthrough in the
semi-finals of the PSA Challenger 5 event when he beat Muhammad Saqib
Yousaf, the Pakistan qualifier who ousted top-seeded Englishman Olivier
Pett in the previous round.
The unexpected Barcelona final saw the fifth Tour meeting between the
German pair. Higher-ranked Kandra, the 22-year-old world No83 from
Essen, built up a 2/1 lead.
But, in fittingly the longest match of the event, 25-year-old Schoor
fought back to claim his 11-5, 7-11, 5-11, 11-6, 12-10 victory after 91
minutes - and pick up the fifth Tour title of his career.
