Trinity Women Rally For 5-4 Win At Cornell by David Kingsley

- Junior No. 8 Jennifer Pelletier (Richmond Hill, Ontario) and
sophomore No. 4 Ashley Tidman (Lamor-Plage, France) each won 3-2
matches with the team decision on the line, as the visiting Trinity
College Bantams rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to upend the Cornell
Universuty Big Red in women's squash action this afternoon on Belkin
Courts. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in the nation, improves to 11-1 with its
second straight victory, while the No. 6-ranked Big Red drops to 9-2.
The Bantams also improbe to 10-0 all-time against Cornell.
Three of the Big Red's four points came in five-game matches, including
two matches in the first rotation to give the hosts an early 2-1 lead.
Both No. 3 Jaime Laird and No. 9 Laura Caty stormed back to win the
final two games if their respective matches. Trinity sophomore No. 6
Natalie Babjukova (Prague, Czech Republic) remained undefeated with a
3-0 win. Cornell sophomore Rachel Au was the Big Red's third five-game
winner, outlasting Bantam senior tri-captain Robyn Hodgson (Aberdeen,
Scotland) at the No. 5 spot, 11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 12-14, 11-6. Junior
Jessenia Pacheco then put Cornell within one point of a victory with a
four-game victory over Trinity junior tri-captain Catalina Pelaez
(Bogota, Colombia) at No. 2.
Pelletier won at No. 8 in a match with five easy victories, winning the
first two games, 11-4 each, dropping the next two, 11-6, and, 11-5,
before winning the clincher, 11-4. Trailing, 4-2, the Bantams swept the
final rotation, including 3-0 triumphs by rookies Kanzy El-Defrawy
(Cairo, Egypt) and Sachika Balvani (Mumbai, India) at No. 1 and No.
7-respectively.
