Teenage amateur Reeham Sedky has been named Squash Player’s Female
Player of the Month for January for her astonishing performances in the
World Women’s Team Championship in December, her senior USA debut.
The 19-year-old University of Pennsylvania student took England’s
world no.11, Sarah-Jane Perry, to five games in the pool stages before
helping the USA to fifth place in Paris with a stunning 3/2 win over
Malaysia’s world no.17, Delia Arnold.
“I think my win against Delia was my best career win over the 10
years I have been playing squash,” said Sedky after her first major
competitive match on a glass court.
“Going into the match with a very relaxed mindset really helped
and I knew that I wasn’t only doing this for myself, but for Team
USA as well. Clinching that five-setter victory left me speechless
and exuberant at the same time.”
Sedky, a semi-finalist in last year’s US Nationals, intends to start
playing some PSA tournaments over the summer and “seeing where I
go from there”.
“My aim is to continue enjoying what I am doing on court and the different countries that I travel to,” she added.
