Ramy Ashour Withdraws from the Tournament of Champions by Nathan Clarke
January 6, 2013
- 2013 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions winner and current World
No.3 Ramy Ashour has today withdrawn from the 2014 staging of the
iconic event which will take place in New York’s famous Grand Central
Terminal from January 17-24.
Ashour was forced off
the court due to injury during the final PSA World Tour event of 2013,
the Hong Kong Open in December, and the Egyptian star has since failed
to return to full fitness.
“It really saddens me not to play the spectacular Tournament of Champions event this year,” said Ashour.
“The ToC is one of my
favorite events but as I am still struggling with my injury the doctors
have advised me not to compete with my current condition.
“I wish the rest of the players a great event.”
The 2014 J.P Morgan
Tournament of Champions would have seen Ashour bidding to win his
fourth ToC title to join Canadian squash legend Jonathan Power as the
event's most dominant competitors.
J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions Chairman John Nimick said;
"While Ramy Ashour's
unfortunate withdrawal denies him a shot at a record-tying fourth ToC
title, the strength and competitive passion of the other top PSA World
Tour players ensures that the 2014 J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions
will once again be a showcase of electrifying competition from the
sport’s great athletes."
The 2014 Tournament of
Champions takes place in Grand Central Station, New York, from January
17-24 with tickets costing from just $8 and available to purchase at http://www.tocsquash.com/ticket-info/tickets.html
