SDA Tompkins Invitational Update: Top Two Seeds Mudge/Gould and Price/Leach Motor Into Monday Night Final by Rob Dinerman
Dateline February 11th
--- Defending champions Damien Mudge and Ben Gould will face second
seeds Paul Price and Clive Leach this evening at the Racquet Club Of
Philadelphia in the final round of the $20,000 Tompkins Invitational.
Neither team has dropped a game so far, with Mudge and Gould defeating
John Russell and John White (five-game Friday-night quarterfinal
victors over Jonny Smith and Greg Park),15-13, 7 and 10 in the first
Sunday-afternoon semifinal, following which Price and Leach, winners of
the SDA January tour stops in Boston and Greenwich, subdued Imran Khan
and Greg McArthur by a 15-9,12 and 4 tally. Tonight's final will be a
rubber match of sorts, with Mudge and Gould having defeated Price and
Leach in the St. Louis final and a Big Apple Open semi, only to then
fall to them twice last month, letting a third-game match-ball get away
in a five-game Boston final-round loss. Two weeks later, Price and
Leach again prevailed, this time in four games, when the two teams met
in the semifinals in Greenwich.
