$40K SDA Johnson Pro Doubles Round of 16 Report by Graham Bassett
February 20, 2014
- The round of the 16 of the 2014 Johnson is officially complete, and
it’s safe to say a very talented field has advanced to the quarters.
A packed crowd was on hand tonight for the second straight day of first round matches.
Proceedings opened
with a much tighter contest than yesterday’s opener as Greg Mcarthur
and Preston Quick fended off a serious challenge from Canadian duo
Brinkman and Mariani.
Imran Khan and Mark Chaloner also advanced to the quarters with a 3-0 win over the young team of Vargas and Judson.
In the third match of
the night, second seeded Leach and Price looked very sharp as they
demolished Racquets world champion James Stout and Philly native Todd
Ruth in three games.
The best match was
saved for last this evening as our very own Whitten Morris and an
on-fire Mike Ferreira came back from 1-0 down to pummel Chris Walker
and Fred Reid.
An impressively large
and very partisan crowd helped the local qualifiers advance to
tomorrow’s quarter-finals which will kick off at 4:30.
