- Virginia guaranteed a top 20 finish by defeating Colby 8-1, the
squad’s first win over the Mules, in the opening round of the “C”
division at the College Squash Association National Championships
Friday at Yale University.
Just three weeks ago the
Cavaliers lost a 5-4 squeaker at Colby. This time, Virginia asserted
itself in the first shift, with all three players jumping out to a 2-0
lead. Jarrett Odrich closed out a crisp 3-0 win, but Killian
Bubrosky lost a see-saw 16-14 third game before sealing the win.
Greg Ho pushed Campbell Goodman to five games before falling 11-7,
giving the Cavaliers a 3-0 lead.
By the end of the second
round, Virginia clinched victory and built a 6-0 lead. Colby’s Andrew
Swapp was the solo win with a decisive four-game match at #7.
Virginia
is a decided underdog to Bates in the semis Saturday, but the team has
an outside chance at making the final with strong performances at #2 to
#9.
