February 21, 2016, New Haven, CT
-- University of Virginia men handily beat Wesleyan University 6-3
Sunday late afternoon to take third overall in the “C” division at the
College Squash Association (CSA) national championships. The win
produced a #19 end-of-season CSA ranking, far above the next best club
team, Stanford, which beat Denison 8-1 for third place in the “D” group
and a final CSA ranking of 27.
The strong finish is the
highest by a club team since 2007, when Denison also finished the
season at #19. The year before, the Denison Big Red club team finished
17th.
Virginia jumped out to an impressive 5-0 lead with 3-0
wins from #2 Charles Woodworth, #4 Grayson Bubrosky and #8 James
Dudzik. Campbell Goodman built a 2-1 lead at #9 but lost the fourth
12-10 before taking the fifth game. Killian Bubrosky fell behind
2-1, but fought back to win in five games, and his victory at #6
delivered the team win for the Cavaliers. Wesleyan won the final three
contested matches and had to cede a default at #3.
