- Nick Matthew and James Willstrop have just fought out the men's final
of the 2013 British National Championship in Manchester with Matthew
claiming a record fifth title at the event which will go down in
history as the highest attended ever.
Following on from this success, the next big squash event to be held in
Manchester will be the Men's World Squash Championship from 26 October
to 3 November. Tickets for this event are due to go on sale by 31 March
when the $325,000 PSA Men's World Championship officially opens for
business.
The official website for the event which is launched today enables fans

The nine-day tournament, to be staged at the National Squash Centre
with finals at Manchester Central, is one of the cornerstones of what
will be another memorable sporting year for the city of Manchester.
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, explains:
"Manchester is the home of UK squash and it will be exciting to welcome
the World's best players back to the city.
"The Men's World Championship will be a highlight of Manchester's
enviable 2013 sporting programme - that also includes the UCI BMX
Supercross World Cup, the Bupa Great Manchester Run and Great
CityGames, a pre-season NBA basketball exhibition game and the Rugby
League World Cup final.
"Manchester has a remarkably strong track record for hosting both
national and international sporting events that not only showcase our
world-class facilities but helps encourage local residents to become
more involved with sport."
Nick Rider, chief executive of England Squash and Racketball, said:
"We're delighted to be hosting the 2013 Men's World Squash Championship
in Manchester, a city which hosted a marvellous 2008 World
Championships and continues to be a fantastic place for international
sport.
"The event continues our strong partnership with Manchester City
Council and we're sure that the 2013 Championship will be a resounding
success, whilst also creating a lasting legacy to inspire children and
adults alike."
Simon Morton is UK Sport's Director of Major Events and International
Relations. The PSA Men's World Championship is part of the Gold Event
Series - a £27 million investment of National Lottery funding aiming to
bring over 70 of the world's most prestigious sporting events to the
UK, including 36 World and European Championships.
"UK Sport is delighted to have played an important role in securing the
rights to host these championships as part of our on-going work to
bring world class events to this country through the Gold Event Series
to build a strong legacy from the incredible success of London 2012,"
he explained.
"Our investment and expert technical support will help ensure that this
championship continues to build on the legacy of the 2002 Commonwealth
Games in Manchester, whilst also helping to prepare athletes and
support staff for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow."
